Our co-founder Manuel Matutes Mestre Matues, and Head of ESG Strategy, Gabriela Cruz, met the Minister of Tourism, Mrs. Daniela Carneiro, and the President of EMBRATUR – Brazilian Tourist Board, Marcelo Freixo, to explain to them how the Aguaduna project will have a positive impact on the Bahia area.
On my first day here in Lisbon (Portugal), I participated in the Lisbon Tourism Fair, one of the world’s biggest and most important tourism fairs. I met the president of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, and other authorities and also talked to investors about the enormous potential of our country.
I got to know about the Aguaduna Sustainable City project, which should invest in sustainable tourism development in Brazil. I may generate 40 thousand jobs in our country, positively impacting the communities surrounding the initiative. Manuel Matutes, founding partner of Kei Cities, and Gabriela Cruz, ESG strategy director, presented the details of the venture. Total focus on innovation and sustainability.
To finish, I took President Marcelo Rebelo to learn a little about our country at the Brazil booth. Let’s reinforce the partnership between our countries, thus strengthening Brazil’s tourism and attracting more tourists! The Brazil of President

The attractions of the 13 tourist areas of Bahia are being promoted at BTL 2023. The Bahia Secretary of Tourism (Setur-BA) also maintains an agenda of negotiations.
In a meeting with the Ministry of Tourism and Embratur, Setur-BA discussed implementing the sustainable project Aguaduna, from the Spanish group Kei Cities, in the Bahia municipality of Entre Rios, on the Costa dos Coconut Coast.
The 250 million euro real estate and leisure project will generate 40,000 jobs, combining development and environmental preservation.
Manuel Matutes Mestre founded KEI Cities with David Espallargas and Tarek Al Masri to positively impact the world and improve the lives of citizens living in cities. Today we are one step closer to this goal.
Innovation has always been a challenging task, but it pays off when you see people falling in love with the Aguaduna project.
Manuel Matutes always thought that the public-private partnership is the key to success for projects of this magnitude. If you want to know more about the Aguaduna project, you can visit our section dedicated to our living lab from the Bahia area.
Aguduna aims to create a smart, safe, resilient, and inclusive city that covers all aspects of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance). Within the overall strategies of the project, we have introduced sustainable tourism – ecotourism and community-based tourism – as essential pillars of social impact. This way, we promote traditional communities and total harmony with the lush natural environment.
During the meeting, we discussed the challenges the project will face and the development opportunities it offers for the region. The Minister of Tourism and the President of Embratur showed great interest in the project and congratulated us on the initiative.
Manuel Matutes Mestre and I had the honor of presenting our project to the Minister of Tourism and the President of Embratur. We are confident that together we can make Aguaduna Sustainable City a reality and generate a lasting positive impact on the region of Bahia.
This is another great momentum of the Brazilian #Aguaduna Living lab and #keicities during our participation in BTL - Bolsa de Turismo de Lisboa. Step-by-step we are creating a strong and diverse partnership network that together will pave the foundations of this bold Project.
